Catalina System Preferences Badge

Well, I guess that red badge is just going to be there permanently since I can’t convince Catalina that I’m signed into iCloud.

As if badge anxiety (see here and here) isn’t bad enough among 3rd party apps, now I’ll forever be worried that I’m behind on a critical system update.

And don’t get me started on the fact that the Notifications pane in System Preferences doesn’t let you disable badges in the Dock for itself.

Then there’s this…

That pops up at least once a day. It’s not the end of the world to have to click and dismiss it, except that you can’t do that. In what’s become an increasingly common pattern in recent years of Apple forcing decisions onto you, the only way to get rid of it is to click “View”, which, of course, opens System Preferences. sigh
